Turunc
Just short of Marmaris we spotted a beautiful bay with the town of Turunc. No marina and no official mooring indicated on the maps and sites. However, when we sailed to have closer look and spotted a lone unoccupied buoy about a 200 meters from the beach. What a luck and immediately tied up to what was to one of our best and exclusive positions ever.
Although we had initially made arrangements to pick up Gary and Allison in Marmaris the next day, we decided to stay at the mooring in Turunc Bay for two nights. So the next day we left Blueberry tied up in the bay and took the local “Dolmush” bus over the mountain to the pre-arranged spot at Netsel Marina in Marmaris. A 45 minute spectacular journey and all for sum of R 25.00 per person.
Just as we were beginning to think that our two companions for the next week had missed their connecting flight from Istanbul, Johan managed to spot Allison as they got off at the taxi. And Gary ? Well he was right there but nearly impossible to spot as this Lebanese boy blended in like any of the local Turkish men. This boy certainly had no handicap when it came to looks in his often expressed breakfast monologues expressing his “crying” expectations to once again back to his Mediterranean roots during this short holiday with us. Fearing that yet another land journey too the yacht would push their limits, we instead took the local water taxi back. Perhaps a more fitting introduction to the medium of transport which was going to be theirs for the next 7 days.
