Kos (Greece)
After a short deliberation, we decided on Kos as our next stop.
Kos or Cos (Greek: Κως) is a Greek island of the group of the Dodecanese, next to the Gulf of Gökova/Cos. The island measures 40 by 8 kilometres (25 by 5 miles), and is 4 km (2 miles) from the coast of Bodrum, Turkey, and the ancient region of Caria.
And what a perfect afternoon of sailing it was. We were welcomed in Kos Marina by a marina official on a rubber duck. In no time at all we were moored and had a customs official directing us to the necessary departments for customs and yacht clearance.
It’s at Kos Marina that we met Stefano and Christina from Italy. We enjoyed chatting with Stefano who has sailed the region often and knows all the divine eating places and little special coves and bays in and around the nearby islands. We spend just the one night in the marina and later after exchanging Wine and Chain and discussing the pending storm on the way, we decided the winds were in our favour to leave for the nearby island of Nisyros, about 24nm away.
